Installing Weight-By-Date Mobile

Before installing Weight-By-Date Mobile, please be sure that:

  • Your handheld meets the system requirements.  Click here for details.

  • If you also ordered Weight-By-Date Pro, be sure that you have first installed it on your PC and that you have run Weight-By-Date Pro at least once to get it configured properly.

  • If you are re-installing Weight-By-Date Mobile, be sure that it is not running on your handheld.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Plug your handheld into your PC and turn it on. Perform a HotSync and wait for it to finish before continuing

  2. Double-click on the "wbdpalm_install.exe" file that you downloaded and the installation will begin.  If you are installing from the CD-ROM instead, then insert the CD and click "Install Weight-By-Date Mobile" on the Welcome screen.

  3. Step through the installation to install the files on both your PC and handheld.

  4. When the “Select HotSync Users” window appears, click on the checkbox next to each user that should have Weight-By-Date Pro installed on their Palm Powered PDA. Click the OK button to continue.

Note: Be sure to check the box next to the HotSync user, or the program will not be installed onto your handheld when you do a HotSync.

  5. When the Configure Weight-By-Date Pro Conduit window opens, make your selections from the options available and click OK.  Before closing the Configuration window, you need to have at least one HotSync user mapped to a Weight-By-Date Pro profile in the User Mappings section.

  6. When the “Installation Complete” window appears, click the “Finish” button to exit the installation. The installation for now is complete, as far as your PC is concerned.

  7. Plug your handheld into its cradle or connect it to your PC and perform a HotSync. The HotSync will take anywhere from 3-5 minutes to complete, as it installs the food database and other supporting files needed to run the application on your handheld. This is a one-time process, so please let the process complete normally.

To start Weight-By-Date Mobile, tap "WBD Mobile" near the bottom of the programs displayed. If you don't see it, the program might be in the "Unfiled" category, where new programs go and they haven't been categorized. If this is the case, then tap the category list in the top-right corner of the screen and select either "All" or "Unfiled".

Upgrading Your PC to Palm Desktop® 4.1

Note: This is not neccessary for most modern Palm devices. But if your handheld is more than two years old, then you should make sure you have Palm Desktop 4.1 using the instructions below.

Palm Desktop is the software that comes with your handheld, and contains all of your addresses, schedules, memos, etc. It also contains the HotSync application, which controls the HotSync process on your computer. Weight-By-Date Mobile requires the latest version of HotSync, which comes with Palm Desktop 4.1 or greater.

  1. Find the HotSync icon on your taskbar next to your clock.
The HotSync icon looks like this:
If you have Windows XP and don't see the HotSync icon, then it may be hidden. Try clicking the button on your taskbar to temporarily show all hidden icons.

  2. Right-click on the HotSync icon and choose "About..." from the menu that pops up.

If it says "HotSync Manager 4.1" or higher, then you already have Palm Desktop 4.1 on your computer, and there is no need to upgrade.  If it says any version less than 4.1, then you will need to download an upgrade.

Upgrading to the latest version of Palm Desktop is usually a free download from the manufacturer of your handheld. If your manufacturer does not offer this download, you can download the software from the Palm web site as a last resort only. Click here to go to Palm's web site.

Sending Fewer Foods To Your Handheld

If you don't have enough space on your handheld for all of the foods in Weight-By-Date Pro, then you can reduce the number of foods by selecting only certain food groups. To do this:

  1. Find the HotSync icon on your taskbar next to your clock.
The HotSync icon looks like this:
If you have Windows XP and don't see the HotSync icon, then it may be hidden. Try clicking the button on your taskbar to temporarily show all hidden icons.

  2. Right-click on the HotSync icon and choose "Custom..." from the menu that pops up.

  3. From the window that appears, select "Weight-By-Date Pro" in the list (click on it) and click the "Change..." button.

  4. The "Configure Weight-By-Date Pro Conduit" window will appear. Click the "Select Foods" button.

  5. The "Pre-Loaded Foods" window will appear. Simply uncheck the food groups that you would like to exclude from your handheld by clicking on them.

  6. As you deselect food groups, the list of foods at the bottom of the window will be reduced. Below the list you will see an indication of the space required for your handheld. Use this to determine if your handheld has enough memory for the foods.

  7. Click OK to close the "Pre-Loaded Foods" window.

  8. Click OK to close the Conduit Configuration window.

  9. Click the "Done" button to close the "Custom" window.

  10. Perform a HotSync to load your new food selections to your handheld. the HotSync may take a few minutes to complete. This is normal.
