Weight-By-Date Mobile for Pocket PC: Resolving the "Could not find CLSID for VBScript" Error

Sometimes error begins happening when you uninstall old or unused applications from your device.  The instructions to fix this error differ depending on the version of Pocket PC that you have.

Solution for Pocket PC 2003 Handhelds:

This error means that certain system files were mistakenly removed along with the uninstalled application.  These files are collectively referred to as "eMbedded Visual Basic Runtime" files.  Microsoft has provided an installer to put these files back on your handheld.  Here is what to do:

  1. Click here to download the eVB Runtime installer from Microsoft's web site.  When downloading, be sure to save the file to your PC instead of opening it.

Note: The file that you download will look like a "zipped" file and you may be tempted to open it on your PC to extract the contents.  Do not do this.  Instead see the next step.

  2. Open the ActiveSync window on your PC and click the "Explore" button.

  3. Browse to any folder on your device, such as My Documents.

  4. Copy the "msvbppc.armv4.cab" file to the folder that you browsed to in step 3.

  5. On your device, tap the Start button, tap Programs, and then tap "File Explorer".

  6. Find the folder on your device that you copied the "msvbppc.armv4.cab" file to.

  7. Tap on the "msvbppc.armv4.cab" file and the appropriate files will be installed to your device.  After this you can delete the "msvbppc.armv4.cab" file from your handheld if you like.

  8. Now reset your handheld.  This is also referred to as a a "soft reset" (NOT a "hard reset").

After this your problem should be resolved.  If not, please let us know and we'll be happy to help.

Solution for Pocket PC 2000/2002 Handhelds:

With Pocket PC 2000/2002 handhelds, this is probably a problem with the registry on your device, which was damaged slightly when uninstalling an old application.  There's a free, well-known program (created by another vendor) called "VBRegFix" that can fix this problem.  Here is what to do:

  1. Click here to download VBRegFix from our web site.

  2. Double-click on the file after it's downloaded and choose the "Unzip" option when it runs.
  3. Use the "My Computer" shortcut on your PC (or your preferred method) and browse to the "C:\VBRegFix" folder on your computer.

  4. Once there, double-click on the "Setup.exe" file (be sure your handheld is connected and ready to go first).

  5. Once installed on your handheld, tap Start, tap Programs, and then tap "VBRegFix".

  6. The VBRegFix program could report a number of things, but you shouldn't have to take any action.  Simply exit VBRegFix without performing any actions (if any are suggested).
Simply starting and closing VBRegFix may take care of your problem.

  7. Now reset your handheld.  This is also referred to as a a "soft reset" (NOT a "hard reset").

After this your problem should be resolved.  If not, try renstalling Weight-By-Date Mobile.  If after this you're still having problems please let us know and we'll be happy to help.
