How do I know if I need
an update?
To see if you really need an update, just choose "Program
Updates..." from the File menu from within the software.
A message will pop up that shows your current version stamp,
which you can write down or commit to memory. You will
then be taken to our secure updates page, where the current
update version will be listed. Just compare this version
number to yours and if yours is lower, then you may want to
download the update.
Some examples:
Your Version: 2.0.3
Latest Version: 2.0.5 (an update is available)
Your Version: 2.1
Latest Version: 2.5 (an update is available)
Your Version: 2.5
Latest Version: 2.5 (an update is not necessary)
Your Version: 1.6
Latest Version: 2.0 (This indicates a major release,
so you will need
to purchase an upgrade)
I am a licensed user and I never received a notification
for the last update. Why?
This could be due to one of the following reasons:
- You chose not to be notified of program updates when
you placed your order.
- Your e-mail address has changed since you placed your
order.
- Your internet service provider rejected the message that
we sent. AOL is notorious for this.
- You have SPAM filtering that is preventing the notification
message from getting through. By the way, you will
never receive SPAM from us.
Just click here to contact us
and we'll be happy to add you to the program update list.
Note that you must be a licensed user to get this automatic
notification.
Are the program updates free?
Yes, program updates are always free for your current edition
of the program. For example, if you own Weight-By-Date
Pro 2.0, then any update labeled 2.x will be free. Once
we have a major release, such as Weight-By-Date Pro 3.0, then
you will need to upgrade to this release, which is almost
always 50% off the full price.
When I download an update, is it the same as just downloading
the full version all over again?
No. Updates are usually much smaller than the full version,
because normally only a few files change when we issue an
update. However, there are cases where an update may
be larger than normal, because we may update several third-party
system files. In any case, it will still be smaller
than the full version.
What is the difference between an Update and Upgrade?
An update contains bug fixes and in many cases adds
a few new features. These are usually issued every every
2-3 months and are free downloads for licensed users.
Updates are labeled as a fractional increment to the program
version stamp. For example, if your program release
is 2.x, then the "x" indicates the update portion
of the version stamp.
An upgrade is necessary when we have a major release,
such as from Weight-By-Date Basic Version 1 to Weight-By-Date
Basic Version 2. Upgrades always contain new features
and new functionality from the previous release. In
this case, current users can upgrade for only a fraction of
the full price. For example, to upgrade from Weight-By-Date
Basic Version 1 to Weight-By-Date Basic Version 2, you can
upgrade for just $9.95 (half the full price).
